Does Disney need a bailout?

So, included in the coronavirus stimulus package is a nice handout to Disney. They own Marvel, Star Wars, Fox and Disney, yet  they can’t handle having to close a park without needing our tax dollars? Has it even been 2 weeks?

There's no handout to Disney.  Disney was just there advising.  The only break corporations are getting from the bailout is not having to pay payroll taxes on wages they are continuing to pay employees while they aren't working because of COVID-19.

Disney, for example, is continuing to pay its park employees despite the parks not being open, so paying park employees to stay home while the parks are closed and not earning money because of COVID-19.  The only break being given is businesses that are choosing to keep paying their employees while not they're not working because of COVID-19, like Disney, don't have to pay the standard 7.65% payroll tax on top of all that money they're giving their employees for free.  And that goes both ways, because employees aren't being charged their 7.65% either, the amount withheld under FICA (Social Security and Medicare), meaning the government isn't claiming its normal 15.3% cut when employers are handing out free paid leave to their employees while their business operations are shut down due to COVID-19, neither the 7.65% employers normally pay nor the 7.65% employees normally pay.

It's not just the park closures. It's also reduced profit from movies because theaters are closed and because they can't film in some places and because actors can't travel.

They have enough movies? Plus they have a whole streaming service with all their movies on it.

No.   Closing was their decision.   They can afford to pay their CEO $47 million.

Do you understand how many lower income people work at the parks, hotels, and restaurants? Maybe you don't need any stimulus dollars, but I bet they do.

Disney has enough to pay all their  employees salaries for a year. They don’t need my tax dollars.
