Is it Spring time, yet?
- mrh-slosLv 72 months ago
I write on March 21, by all reckonings yes, irrespective of the weather. The Meteorological Office (GB), optimistically considers March 1, to be the beginning of spring, the true vernal equinox occurred yesterday, March 20 at 0350am GMT/UTC, but in the popular mind, today, March 21 is considered the first day of spring.

Not quite yet. The equinox is on March 19, 2020. The flowers and trees know it is springtime. They have been blooming for weeks, no matter what the calendar says. Global warming is real

No, it is still winter here in the northern hemisphere and still summer in the southern hemisphere. The vernal equinox (the start of spring) will be at 3.49 a.m. UTC on Friday 20th March 2020. Because of the UTC time it will start on Thursday 19th March 2020 in North America. It is the earliest spring has arrived for 100 years.
All that, of course, applies to the northern hemisphere. In the southern hemisphere it will be the autumnal equinox and the start of autumn.
All the above is based on astronomical phenomena and the widely accepted means of recognising the official changes to the seasons. From the meteorologists' point of view it is already spring. They simply divide the year into four groups of three months and say spring is March, April and May (in the northern hemisphere).

Spring in the northern hemisphere begins on March 21. Is it on or after March 21?
