Good dish to bring to a poolside birthday gathering?

So far someone is bringing chicken wings and another person is bringing buffalo chicken dip. I was thinking about pasta salad but not too sure. What are some other things i can bring?

If you take pasta salad, make sure that the dressing is not mayo-based, as that can spoil in the heat. Pasta salad with a vinaigrette dressing would be fine. Also, a nice fresh fruit platter would be great, as well as veggies and dip.

I'd avoid anything with mayonnaise, which is notorious for not holding up well in weather warm enough for swimming. Lots of people find themselves sick to their stomachs hours after returning from a picnic or other outdoor eating event with foods not kept on ice.

You could bring a vinegar-based salad like three-bean or cucumber/tomato/sweet onion, or if you want to be the carb provider, cheesy or dirty rice.

Depends on the temperature and the people.

If it's kids then a few square pizzas cut into finger sized pieces will work.

Potato salad with grated cheese and chives is a good side.

So is stuffed potato skins - fill with chilli, top with cheese and grill till golden.

Spicy potato wedges. or curry wedges.

    Garlic bread twists.

Puff pastry parcels with various fillings - cheese, chopped ham,

    Vegetable or chicken samosas.

    Pakoras.

    Flat beads cut into slices

    Any sort of tapas

Salsa and other dips if you bring a 'kit' of a selection and stuff to dip in it.

How about baked beans or something dessert-like?  Chances are if you bring "pasta salad", ten OTHER people will bring it, too.
