Grade 12 Physics Question?

A 1250 kg car is towing a 2160 kg truck using a rope to connect the two vehicles. The

acceleration after being stopped at a red light is 1.10 m/s2 forward once the light turns green.

a) Find the force needed to accelerate the connected vehicles.

b) What minimum strength needed in the rope connecting the two vehicles?

    F = ma

    Force needed = (1250 + 2160) × 1.10 = 3750 N

    b)

    Minimum strength needed = 2160 × 1.10 = 2380 N

    AF = (mc+mt)*a = 3410*1.1/1000 = 3.75 kN

    T = mt*a = 2,160*1.1/1000 = 2.38 kN

    (a) F = m×a = (1,250+2,160)kg × 1.1m/s² = 3,751 Newtons

    (b) F = m×a = 2,160 × 1.1 = 2,376 Newtons
