I would love to see a film biography of Sarah Josepha Hale (1788-1879).

She was the highly influential "editress" (her term) of one of the most influential

magazines of the 19th century.  Think Oprah and Martha Stewart.  She was both.

She wrote novels, poetry, including "Mary had a Little Lamb", and helped found

    Vassar College.

Her influence also helped popularize white wedding gowns and Christmas trees

    in the United States.

But her outstanding legacy was the creation of Thanksgiving as a national

holiday.   She grew up in New England, which had a Thanksgiving tradition

going back to the 17th century, but soon discovered that the holiday was unknown in

other parts of the country.   She petitioned five presidents to make it a national

observance.   The first four ignored her.  The fifth--no less than Abraham Lincoln,

still overseeing the Civil War, declared a national Thanksgiving holiday in 1863,

and it has been observed ever since.

    A truly cinematic life.
