The relatively low pay is the major issue. Teaching requires patience and love kids, but it’s incredibly challenging even if pay is good. Teachers today deal with hungry, abused, homeless, violent and kids who require parenting and teaching. One must consider the costs teachers often pay from their own pockets when schools or parents don’t or won’t send supplies. Then there’s the always lurking fear of a school shooting. It can be incredibly rewarding in spite of all this though. I dropped out after one year because I knew it wasn’t my passion.
