Are Chinese and Japanese people very different from one another?

Grouping people is a big issue because anyone is different from anyone else. Asian cultures have similarities and differences. I've worked directly with people in Japan, Taiwan, and Mainland China, and do find differences in business dealings.
Japanese place far more emphasis on manners and social hierarchy than the Chinese do. Japanese are more capitalist and Chinese more socialist.
A simple example is in speaking on a cell phone in public. Japanese tend to be very quiet, and Chinese often speak loudly.
There are many differences, even if Asian cultures in general have some common traits.

Different in what way? Their cultures are different. What other differences are you looking for?

Yes. Their language, culture, and food are very different.
