Why are the same accounts on my credit report twice?

So I’m in the process of paying my debt collections and it shows the same accounts with the same dates on both my TransUnion and Equifax. Does that mean I have to pay them twice?

It means those 2 credit reporting agencies receive that information and report of, not that there are two of those accounts.

All 3 credit bureaus will have the same information. If the same account was listed twice on one report, it may be a duplicate. Having it listed on each bureau's report is not a duplication.
