What’s the purpose of the anonymous feature?

People seem to take offense when someone asks or answers questions anonymously.

Like all features here.......whatever GOOD intention, it was started with............it was absolutely and totally  100% corrupted by TROLLS  who use it for evil purposes  now. ----mostly stalkers.....and point gamers , who ask anonymously, and then award Best answers to their other sock puppets.........and do this, so  no one  can SEE  they are getting countless best answers from the SAME one user-

A lot of people simply want to stay out of sight. They don't wan't any followers, they don't want anyone stalking them. I got tired of guys asking me if I did BJ's or "threesomes"

It allows cowards and people ashamed of their posting history to pretend that they aren't continuously posting the same idiotic trolls over and over.

  • The anonymous feature was created so users could ask and answer sensitive post without being attacked by others in the future.  However, like everything here the trolls figured how to misuse it and did a wonderful with it.  People wanted it and now they have it.  So you have to live by it unless feedback to Yahoo will convince them to change it.

The purpose is if you have something Embarrassing to Ask that you don't want other people knowing its you you can Hide your Self and Ask it

Or same thing with Answers If you have a Question you want to Answer that;s Embarrassing that you don't want other people to know it was you you can Post it

A lot of people tho use it for the Wrong Reasons a lot of people use It to Hide and Cyber Bully other people Around

It's self explanatory - to be anonymous (to hide your YA identity). It was added to the site, at user request, so people could ask sensitive questions or share sensitive info as an answer, without other users knowing which user they were. Some people take offense to anything. You can't control what others find offensive. I don't care who posts anonymous or why - if their post isn't a violation, it's fine.

The original purpose was to allow people to ask questions that were of a personal nature to the extent the poster didn't want to show themselves.  It was kind of a silly feature since as Master Shake says it isn't that we aren't to a certain extent anonymous even when we are not posting anonymously.

Unfortunately the feature has been hijacked by spammers, and trolls who use it to abuse and disrupt the forum.

There are simple algorithms that could be used to cut down on this abuse like not allowing the same post to be repeated for 48 hours, or limiting the anonymous posts one can make per day.

Verizon obviously doesn't care. The whole purpose of maintaining this site is as an advertising revenue stream, hence the number of ads per page.

I don't see a purpose, some people are just overly paranoid.

It has no purpose, since it is HIGHLY unlikely that anybody will know you on here, and it's just ludicrous when people post anonymously, then comment.  (You can't comment anonymously.

it's for cowards to troll without people knowing what their username is. In all honesty its a completely stupid feature. This is in internet forum, it's not as if all of us arent already anonymous
