Which Japanese dish is most dangerous? Fatal?!?

Update:

Fugu is the obvious answer, but it's not the most deadly.

Update 2:

And the answer is mochi (beaten rice desert)!

Mochi killed (strangulation) 9 people in Japan in 2019, while fugu averaged 2 per year over more than a decade.  The lesson is the fugu chefs are more careful than the mochi eaters!

Eating the dishes is unhealthy everywhere. Try eating what is on the dishes.

Thomas!  Since I foolishly entered this question in the 'language' category, your answer is the only appropriate answer to my inappropriate question.  However, if confront a dish of mochi, the dish might be more safely consumed

All food in food shops in Japan are safe except food poisoning, but people could die when they have eaten toadstools by mystake which are gotten individually by mushroom gatherers in a hill/forest etc.

There are those accidents every year. Most of the case they survive.

but it would not be the most dangerous, though.

  • How does fugu kill you?

Tetrodotoxin poisoning has been described as "rapid and violent", first a numbness around the mouth, then paralysis, finally death. The unfortunate diner remains conscious to the end. There is no antidote. "This would be enough to kill you."

As everyone says, yes, fugu, pufferfish. If you'd like to eat pufferfish, you should go to a restaurant whose chef has a license to cook fugu.

Puffer fish. The government decided that left over meals were dangerous to people since they eat a lot of raw food, so that gave the restaurants the go-ahead to serve smaller portions.

Fugu ("Pufferfish".)  If it is not prepared correctly, you can die by being paralysed.
