"Why are women as a sex advantaged under affirmative action?"
This is just feminists changing the goal posts when they got what they asked for (equal Rights and equal Opportunities), but it didn't turn out they way they had hoped.
Original feminism (The Women's Rights Advocates), told us that if women were given equal legal Rights, then they would have the same opportunities as men, and would be able to compete with them on a level playing field. Thus women would be able to rise to their individual levels, just like men.
Women obtained equal legal Rights in the first world.
Decades later during the advent of "women's liberation" (aka 2nd wave feminism), these more radical feminists looked around and noted that women, with equal opportunity, were not represented in equal numbers as they had envisioned. This was nothing more than women with equal Rights who were simply not interested in making the same career and lifestyle choices as men. But instead of acknowledging this reality, feminists invented "patriarchy theory" out of thin air, to explain this disconnect. They would rather have us believe that all men conspire together in some secret, unspoken conspiracy, than face the idea that some women just don't want to work in wage-slave jobs, or even high pressure politics.
This is when feminists pushed for affirmative action. And they did this by co-opting the civil rights movement. They simply demanded minority status for women. Ever since then, women have been the biggest beneficiaries of affirmative action, which was actually design for minority races.
In effect; feminists have changed the goal posts and now demand equal OUTCOMES as opposed to their original request for equal OPPORTUNITY.

My own daughters excel in male dominated fields. They often said "I gotta do it twice as good, 'cause I'm a girl". They did this! To have others achieve similar status through AA is an insult to those that earned their status through work, and accomplishments. AA is an insult to women. It indicates they are not as capable.

It's called social engineering and if you'd like another example consider this. California just passed a law that makes every freelancer, gig worker and 1099 subcontractor unemployable in this state. This was designed to try to make Uber and Lyft pay benefits to their workers. The fallout is that everyone from day part actors to syndicated columnists to wedding photographers to part time dog walkers now can't work here. The untended consequences of these things tend to be dire. But in most cases legislation is tinkered with and eventual compromises are forged.
