For back country and mountain flying is a commercially built aircraft preferred or one of the new model kit planes like Highlander or KitFox?

Would you put floats on such a machine?

I would choose the kit (experimental registration) plane because it's a lot cheaper to maintain.  However, for commercial operations (i.e.  paying  passengers) you can't use an experimental.

Do you have the skills, time and knowledge to build a kit plane to completion and learn to fly it? Do you have the shop space and equipment you need to do the work? Many people take YEARS to complete a kit plane, when you can buy an airworthy older Cessna or Piper for about the same kind of money and go flying TODAY!

I'd say that is your opinion and yours alone.

A kit plane can be more easily and cheaply repaired, but the question is about quality.

If you have lots of experience building planes, the kit will probably be best.

If you are just a Joe Schmoe and novice and barely know what a fuselage is or how to pronounce it, stick to the factory.
