Was this too harsh? What does 'thanks' mean here?

A friend of mine wrote 'dear suicidal bug, thanks for ruining my freshly poured glass of coke...****!', supposedly after a bug fall into their drink.

I imagine this would be annoying, but was this too harsh a thing to say in the circumstances? Why did they use 'thanks' here - wouldn't it have been more caring of them to try and save the bug, rather than letting it drown?
