So I backed into a tree in a friends yard and broke the tail light cover, the bulb itself is fine and I was wondering what I should do? ?
Well I know to fix it but I was wondering if insurance will cover it if I have full coverage and if so what are the consequences...

First and foremost, you should stop backing into trees. Second, find out what the lens assembly will cost to replace.
Your Collision coverage will pay for the damage to your car, minus whatever deductible you have. It will also go on your record as a responsible (at fault) accident, which very well might increase your rates for the next few years.

Repair the tail light cover

Forget insurance. Go buy a new cover, install it.

Why would you want to tell insurance about this? They may raise your rates. How about you just replace the tail light cover and be more careful backing up next time?

Likely your insurance coverage for collision is going to have a deductible that is higher than the cost of the repair.
Plus if you go through insurance it will just go against your insurance costs eventually...maybe not this one but when you start costing your insurance money on a continuous basis they will re-coup their losses.
Price a new or even used lens cover - probably well worth it to DIY.

Buy a new tail light cover. Otherwise, you risk getting a ticket for driving with it as is.
