A parallel plate capacitor, without any dielectric, is charged by a battery, and then disconnected from it. Which of the following is true regarding the insertion of a slab of insulating material in between the plates after the battery has been disconnected?

A) The electric field in the capacitor is stronger

B) The charge always conducts through the dielectric material

C) The dielectric material is repelled from the plates

D) The dielectric material is attracted to the plates

     D) The dielectric material is attracted to the plates

    When you add a dielectric to the parallel plate capacitor, the capacitance increases but the charge can't change.  Since  C = Q/V,  the voltage must decrease so the electric field (E) decreases as  E = V/D and the plate distance hasn't change. Answer A is false, B is also false, the dielectric is an insulator

    Answer C is also false, dielectrics are not repelled by the plates
