That was already decided by a two-step voting process & revealed on 29 Nov. 2004.  The choice was Thomas Clement "Tommy" Douglas,  who was a Member of Parliament as a member of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation.  In 1944, he left the federal party to become leader of the Saskatchewan C.C.F. & Premier

to 1961.  He was leader of the federal New Democratic Party (the new name chosen for the C.C.F.) until 1971.  He was a Member of Parliament from 1969 to 1979.  He died in 1986 at age 81.  His prime achievement was to introduce the 1st single-payer universal health care on the N. American continent in Saskatchewan in 1962.  It was made a federal; program in 1966.

His trial was a sham put on by the British government. He stood up for his people in the face of genocide. If he did not my ancestors would have been exterminated and I would not be here.
