ASL historically is connected to what other country's sign language?

    American Sign Language (ASL) evolved from French Sign Language (LSF) in the American School for the Deaf under Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, as Gallaudet chose to adopt the methods of the French.

    I'd guess the UK's since so many signs for words incorporate making the sign for the first letter of the word as part of the sign, meaning it has to be an English-speaking country.

      Yet, it isn't from an English speaking country.  It came from France and was adapted for use in the USA.  I
