# A light spring of constant 159 N/m rests vertically on the bottom of a large beaker of water.?

A 4.22 kg block of wood of density 620 kg/m3

is connected to the top of the spring and

block Volume V :

V = mass m (kg) / wood density (kg/dm^3) = 4.22/0.62 = 6.806 dm^3

F = V*(ρwat-ρwood)*g = 6.806*(1.00-0.62)*9.806 = 25.4 N

ΔL = F/k = 25.4 / 159 = 0.160 m (16.0 cm)
