How do I convince my dad that I’m not an alcoholic?

My dad is really traumatized by his brother’s alcoholism and has become convinced that I’m also addicted. Help!

That is tough to get around considering how the rehab places define alcoholism. Once done people tend to apply the definition to virtually everyone they know. You may not be able to talk yourself out of his diagnosis. Instead you may have to actively prove it to him by not drinking to excess, or talking about drinking to excess past present or future.

It's not up to your dad or anyone but you, to decide whether you have a drinking problem.

And if you're of adult age, you have the right to live it as you please.

My father was a recovering alcoholic, and he used to tell my sisters and i this: "you have a drinking problem". Why? Because he was obsessed! I just used to say, Ok Dad, and then i'd go about my life.

    Take care of You!!
