What are those rubber inserts, that are hollow and used for pvc or adapters?

You put them through a hole and you can either feed pvc pipe through it or you can use other things like adapters too.

Update:

They’re used when installing pvc so water won’t leak or seep out of the corners of the hole.

while there are washers for pvc installations, without compression of some sort, they do not prevent water leaking

Fernco fittings are for fitting two pieces of pipe together.  They've solved many problems for me, especially connecting cast iron to PVC.

The word grommets  comes to mind. Mostly for "sheet metal" enclosures. "Rubber grommet" in specific. I don't think they work well as adapters. Those would be called "couplings" or "sleeves".

It sounds like you're trying to describe grommets or gaskets.
