Is this sentence correct:

"If you join a 'a' TO 'put', you get a swear word in my native language."

    If you join 'an' a to 'put'  you get a swear word in my native language.

    'an' is always put before a word beginning with a vowel.  Vowels are a,e,i,o,u.  as in an umbrella, an apple, an ignorant man, an ostrich, an everlasting belief.
