Technology advances so quickly the next console should just be a full fledged computer. New graphics cards and processor are being developed every year but a new console takes 5-10 years to design and put to market. By the time it gets released the hardware becomes obsolete within 2-3 years. For PC gamers they just have to replace a graphics card every now and then, but buying a new system for 500$+ every year is not practical. As if the consumer isn't already spending too much on smart phones and other devices. It's becoming too expensive to manufacture these playstations and xboxes. Customers are tired of being bled dry to buy a device that will become outdated in a year. Computers don't have this problem. Things can be added to it that will improve its performance without replacing the whole thing. However, I don't think Sony wants to compete with Windows and Apple in that area of technology which is why they just stick to making consoles.

    Doubt it.

They’re making a huge amount of money on games, consoles and such. No companies where their primary focus is on video games would give up such a vital part of it without a damn good reason.
