Assume that a femur (thigh bone) is 0.51 m

long, and calculate the amount of compression

this bone can withstand before breaking.

    Youngs = stress / strain = σ / ε

    1.8e10 Pa = 1.53e8Pa / ε

    ε = 0.0085

    ΔL = εL = 0.0085 * 0.51m = 4.3e-3 m = 4.3 mm
