Only if it has a built-in crossover.

You need to know the details of each different piece of equipment

in order to use it correctly.

typically a speaker sold as a subwoofer will not reproduce audio of higher frequencies.  the purpose of a cross-over is to keep the low range of audio out of the other speakers.  so if you attach the subwoofer to a normal hifi you will discover that the full range speakers will attempt to continue playing the deep bass which could lead to considerable distortion if you crank up the bass to "thump" levels.

You'll need a crossover network to restrict specific frequencies to the woofer.
