Assume 9000 tickets are sold. If x is the number of $23 tickets sold, then (9000 - x) is the number of $28 tickets sold. Set the sum of the revenue from the two different ticket prices equal to the desired return and solve for x.

23x + 28(9000 - x) = 212,000

23x + 252,000 - 28x = 212,000

-5x = -40,000

x = 8,000

Number of $23 tickets to sell = 8,000

Number of $28 tickets to sell = (9,000 - 8,000) = 1,000

Check:

return = (8,000 x $23) + (1,000 x $28) = $212,000
