What's the fax number to fax documents to the IRS?

The IRS DOES NOT ACCEPT documents by fax. The only POSSIBLE exception is as part of an audit, in which case the INDIVIDUAL auditor would supply their fax number.

Whatever number you are told by a human handling a specific issue if you have one. IRS has thousands of fax numbers and most are to individual employees and go to their email addresses only. There is no "everybody is welcome" fax number.

1-800-FAX-2IRS. That said, I wouldn't fax them anything. They have about a 98% chance of losing it.

IRS does not accept initially faxed returns. If you have received a letter asking for documents faxed in, that letter will have the appropriate fax number. The IRS has many fax numbers, there is no central number to send all your random forms to. If you have lost your letter and don't know where you are supposed to send them in, call the help line and be ready to be on hold for hours.

There are many of them depending on which documents you are sending and which division is supposed to receive them.
If you received a notice requesting further documentation, refer to the notice itself.
