Need to know how to find a sector location.?
Need to know how to find a sector location. Getting rid of the laptop and have deleted all personal data. But then ran a recovery program to make sure. Found a number of personal photos. They are no longer to be found in any file. All there is, is the sector location.
How can the sector location be found, so everything is cleaned?
Thanks in advance.

Get an electric drill and punch a hole through the hard drive. If you are selling it I can assure you that the buyer isn't going to go poking through the deleted files looking for pics of your Aunt Sally.

YOu need to use a program which will write something to every sector of thehard drive. There are several, many of them free. Make sure you find one that will wipe according to Dept of Defense Specs. (DoD 5220.22-M Data Wipe Method) This is three (3) passes and writes a different character with each pass.
Pass 1: Writes a zero and verifies the write.
Pass 2: Writes a one and verifies the write.
Pass 3: Writes a random character and verifies the write.
My favorite for this is Kill Disk.

Deleting stuff just gets rid of the index, the data isn't deleted, it's just marked as available for overwrite. You need to use a program that overwrites the data location as well, Ccleaner is a good free one.
