Do single people really pay more taxes in the US?

Wow if that's true that's really rude. What about those involuntary single people who can't have someone by their side and moreover those who are involuntary single and in minimum wage jobs. That's so oppressive and dehumanising.

Would it be fair for single people to pay more if they have less.

Rudeness has nothing to do with it. Single people have fewer financial responsibilities than married people, particularly with children in tow. However, this may change in the future as fewer people marry. It could prompt a change in the law.

Not really, no. However, oppressive and dehumanizing is a bit over the top.

People with minimum wage jobs don't have to pay federal income tax. Married filing jointly is a bleeding heart liberal gimmick that we are stuck with.

    • Min wage in AZ  is $12/hr,, that puts even singles into the mandatory filing bracket. NOT those that only make $7,50, there is NO  country-wide minimum wage. REF: Brother is Tax CPA.

Slightly higher rate when all is said and done.

Maybe not now, but before this year if you had more than two children the you could get child tax credit for more my each claiming two. Also if one works low wage and gets EIC credits while the primary wage earner claims separately as head of house.
