Any medication that influences brain chemistry can have both positive and negative effects.

This is why warnings exist and why doctors monitor patient on these medicatìons regularly

There are two reasons.  First, some people go suicidal if they stop taking the meds.  Better to taper down slowly.  Second, some people are so depressed they feel hopeless.  They are utterly paralyzed and cannot do anything.  When they start on anti-depressants, they feel just enough better to do something about it......

Brush up on your biochemistry, bub. SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) increase the amount of 'available' serotonin by blocking their reabsorption.

Suicidal thoughts are NOT symptoms of depression (lack of serotonin), but can become the result of. SSRIs affect different people in different ways, so their effects are not easily knowable.

SSRIs are not cures nor effective stand-alone treatment for depression, but they are the best we have. They are miracle drugs compared to what was available only 30 years ago.

BE GRATEFUL that you are not considering lobotomy.
