My 27 year old husband was killed in The Gulf War, I wonder if you'd have the guts to do what he and heroes like him did / do.

Anyone in the military who was like that would be kicked out pretty quickly.

Read or listen to David Grossman’s book On Killing. This is discussed.

I am married to a soldier.  They feel bad having to kill people but it's kill them or be killed.  Soldiers signed up to "serve and protect" their country.  Doing that job requires self-preservation.  You don't go to war to be shot and killed, at least very few of them sign up for that purpose.

Only a very small percentage of the population gets any sort of enjoyment from killing, and they wouldnt pass the psych eval to be a soldier
