Leatherette is fake leather, not leather at all. It's a man-made product, some sort of vinyl.

I have a Naugahyde couch that is very old and it has not grown old well. I also have an old car with cloth seats and it is doing great. Maybe not the best if you have little kids, dogs, or do a lot of camping. but for regular use, it is very good.
The cloth is also more comfortable to sit on in hot weather. also, pleather tends to stick to your skin, not ideal if you wear shorts.

talk to your car dealer and ask them.

No. It's made from petroleum products, which is made up of billions of teeny-tiny dead animals.

Yes, leatherette, a.k.a., pleather, a.k.a., naugahyde, is 100% vegan. Car companies guarantee that it meets vegan standards as they make a point of marketing those interiors to vegans as an alternative to leather without having to step down to cloth, which many customers don't like because of how it can be difficult to clean, stains more easily than leather or leatherette, and retains odors, especially when spilled on and that spillage has soaked into the underlying foam.

It's made from petroleum. So there's no animal product in it. Petroleum actually comes from ancient plants, so you could say it was vegan.
