How do the concepts of range effects play a role in IQ tests and scores?

IQ tests scores are determined by a normal distribution such that the mean score is always 100.  As such, the range will affect scores because range affects variance and standard deviation.  All other things being equal, a wider range, for example, will mean that an individual's test performance that has, say, 3 more right answers than the mean will result in a higher IQ score than if the range were narrower.

i think if there's a lot of background noise when you're taking the test your scores will be lower.
