How do you make this "glow from behind" effect in Photoshop?

    It's simply an optical illusion.  Obviously it's just white behind the character, but our brains create the illusion of brightness because of the white fade around the character's edge.  So just soften using a blue/white tone and make sure your shadowing matches the light source.

    1) Duplicate layer.

    2) Use the lassoo to get the outline of the person.3) (If you don't have a fully white area now use thresholds or flood fill to make it all white.)

    4) Blur the edges of the white object.

    5) (If you don't want the white object around you can then remove it using the AND function with the person.)
