Look at a map!!! We live in NY state, and drive 2 hours to La Guardia, Kennedy, or Newark. Yes, there are closer airports - Newburgh, etc. - but they do not have the flights we want. Delaware is TINY and neat several big airports - not a problem.

Philadelphia International is very close to Delaware (to all of Delaware, because it is a small state). And they aren't far from other options for air travel either.

The USA 48 contiguous states is bigger than Europe, and there are vast areas with no major airport. Delaware has a little under 1 million people. It is divided into 3 counties, New Castle County in the north has over half the people but only 1/5 the area. Wilmington, DE, the largest city, is about 21 miles/34 km from PHL Philadelphia airport. Pretty much all of New Castle County is under 1 hour drive from PHL without traffic. Southern Delaware is closer to Reagan National in Washington DC.
The military has a base in Dover, DE, and an airport near Wilmington, code ILG may get some scheduled service with Frontier airlines starting in May,2020. They are scheduling to Orlando, FL.
