The last half of the decade commonly called the 1950's began immediately as the clock struck 0000h (midnight) on 1 Jan. 1956 & ended at the end of the last second of 23:59:59 on 31 Dec. 1960.  The next second began the 1960's.  That's simple mathematics.  How can this possibly be so difficult for anyone to understand?

Well, it looks like at least a few here are too STUPID to understand this factual recitation.  I wonder if they can even grab their own posteriors with both hands at the same time?

Any years after 1955, and before 1960. Strange question for some great times in

    America.

it is not a strange question.
Some people break the decade into early and late and others break it up into early, middle and late.
To some people 1955 is late 50s and to others it is mid 50s.

1957 through 1959.  1956 is considered 'mid 1950s'.  1960 is part of the 1960s at least in popular thought.
