Is this a bad ideal?

I'm thinking of buying a cash car for 1500$. It is a 2006 Volkswagen jetta but I don't know how many miles it has.

That's a very good price.  But it depends on the condition of the car.

Without having any useful information to share about it, the answer is yes, it's a bad idea. You'd at least be wise to spend $150 and take it to a VW mechanic to get it thoroughly checked out and test driven first. If you can't be bothered or can't afford to, you'll deserve every bad thing that happens to you in an older cheap used car.

By law, car sellers have to tell accurate mileage.

Keep in mind that if there are exhaust leaks you can't use after market converters. It will cost you around $1200 to take care of the exhaust system.

Depends how many miles and how well it was treated.    It could be a great deal. (the price is good) or it could be just flushing $1500 away

Ask to take it to the local VW dealer and have a safety inspection before purchasing an unknown

take a 14 year old $1500 car to a vw dealer? They have it crushed and sell you a new car. which would still work out cheaper than having them fix and maintain the old vw over the next 5 years..
