is "Whey Protein" healthy to take as a supplement to your diet? why?

Update:

when did this become popular to take "protein shakes"? and how makes you feel better or more healthier? is it true that it gives you more energy due to the extra protein?  how much more than you would get by just eating an extra 8 oz. of chicken breast probably?

Update 2:

ALSO, DOES IT HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT? WHY? HOW MUCH MORE QUICKLY?

"when did this become popular to take "protein shakes"?

They were fairly common in the 80s. Before that I don't know

"and how makes you feel better or more healthier" Not sure what you're asking. Protein/aminos are essential for thousands of body processes.

"is it true that it gives you more energy due to the extra protein"

    Energy comes from carbohydrates.

" how much more than you would get by just eating an extra 8 oz. of chicken breast probably?"

You can look up the amounts if you want but protein quality is as least as important as quantity

"ALSO, DOES IT HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT"

It all comes down to calories but if you're cutting back calories you'd want to make sure to get as much quality nutrition as you can.
