What are some important things to consider when buying golf clubs?

The course(s) you will be playing on.
The thing is, you don't need all the variations of the clubs, and most people don't use their low-numbered irons properly. One course I played on regularly, I found that I could get by with a #1 wood, a 7-iron, a wedge and a putter, and even the toughest course I could get by with those plus a 5-wood, a 3-iron, a 9-iron and a "chipper". So, don't be fooled by the "full set" syndrome.
The other thing is to look at the stiffness that suits you best and how far up the shaft you need the C of G.
