They will treat you then bill you later. You can negotiate a payment plan with them if you cannot pay the entire bill immediately. In your payment plan, you can agree to pay a small amount every month--they may be satisfied with that. They may even forgive part or all of your bill if you explain your financial situation.

They are required to give you emergency treatment whether you can pay or not, whether you have insurance or not.

They don't have to offer you any additional treatment, though.

So, while ERs have certain legal obligations, if you've got a long-term condition like heart disease or cancer, you will be in difficulties if you cannot pay. You can't get chemotherapy or heart surgery in an ER.

You will be billed for the emergency treatment, but the fees may be waived depending on your financial situation.  I repeat, though: they don't have to do anything else for you.

In the U.S., they have to treat you, whoever comes into their hospital. You will be charged accordingly, but you will be treated.

They are required to stabilize your condition. They are not required to do more.

They have to treat you.  But once you become stable for transfer, they will transfer you to the County Hospital.

It seems so complicated but going to the emergency room now in most states you are treated before being asked how you are going to pay.

By law you must be treated until you are stable. After being released, you will be billed for the services you received. If you don't pay the bills, you become a thief, in which case, you will be treated for your next attack in a prison hospital.

Assuming you're in the United States, yes. You would be stabilized and referred elsewhere for follow-up care.
