What's the diff between a counsellor, therapist and psychiatrist?

Did any of them actually helped you overcome your battles?

a counselor gives you advice (counsel).

a therapist gives you therapy (which may be physical or mental).

a psychiatrist does both, as needed, but focuses on problems involving how people think.

Education and state requirements. Many states don't have nay requirements for counselors - anyone can set up shop. Therapists have a degree in psychology and usually have taken clinicals as well.Psychiatrists have to become MDs first and then get a degree in psychiatry. Psychiatrists can act as therapists, though these days they mostly prescribe medications.

The word "counselor" is used for people other than mental health professionals. A therapist is anybody providing service prescribed by a doctor - psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, psychiatrist, or speech therapist.

A psychologist deals with acute problems like major depression and panic disorder. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor - someone who can prescribe medicine. This kind of doctor offers therapy for complicated problems - personality disorders and multiple disorders.
