Is it wrong for a father to teach his 10-year-old son the code of the schoolyard (the rules that teach a boy to be a man)?
1. Don't tattle.
2. Always make fun of those different from you.
3. Never say anything unless you're sure everyone feels exactly the same way you do.

Making fun of those different from "you" is a real good way to get yourself hurt or even KILLED if your so-called victim snaps and turns on you..... particularly if they happen to have access to a gun. It has happened more than once, you know. Every single major school shooting that has happened over the past 25 years or so was motivated by one thing and one thing only: a desire for REVENGE for some act or acts, whether real or imagined, on the part of the person or people doing the shooting. Even Columbine, which was originally planned as a BOMBING and not a shooting, was motivated by a desire for revenge on the part of the shooters.
Somehow, I can't really imagine that this is the sort of thing you want your child to learn.

Those are the rules for bullies not for being a man.

The second is raising a bully and the third is raising a puppet. He’ll be easy to manipulate when he won’t speak up for himself. The first is only applicable in some cases. If he sees a crime is he supposed to stay silent? You have to teach him the time and place to use these rules and for the second one...don’t make fun of the popular and cool kids if he isn’t one of them. Speaking as one when i was in school, his life could easily become a living hell.

So - based on step 2 - you want to raise a bully.
These "rules" are outdated and WRONG.

No it's not wrong.

That's why we have public schools so children can unlearn what they learn on the playground in the classrooms. Sometimes parents make good teachers but it is rare. Yet another thing that is best left up to the professionals.
