Mary Stewart's "The Merlin Trilogy" is good.

Read The Mabinogion, the ancient Welsh text, which details how they engaged in combat, and how Lancelot shoved a naga devil chili pepper up Arthur's round table. And, verily, a loud wailing and gnashing of teeth was heard across the land.

I used to live near Clapham Juncture, and it is commonly supposed that Sir Lancelot was buried there; In the same way that it is known that the British rebel leader 'boudicca' lies beneath what is now Kings Cross Station

In the old (e.g. Welsh) Arthurian stories, Arthur is a cad.
In the later (French-influenced) stories we find Lancelot
and we find a much more civilized Arthur.
In these stories
Lancelot is the premier knight as far as skill in jousting goes
- exception: Galahad, who had God on his side, but Galahad is only running about jousting for a little bit of the story
but Lance does the unthinkable: he treasonously beds Arthur's wife.
So: in these later stories Arthur is typically viewed as more loyal than Lance
one might say: more righteous than Lance
but not more skilled in battle than Lance.
HIGHLY recommend that you first read
- The Sword in the Stone (T H White)
before you read ANY other Arthurian book.

I don't know if he was stronger or better than King Arthur but he was younger.

Apparently he had an impressive weapon.
