# what is my overall grade? maths question, top answer to best?

If I got a mark worth:

45%= 80/100

and a mark worth:

55%= 68/100

what would my overall grade be altogether?

I think it's 74– would this be correct?:)

Total Points Possible = 200.

Total Points Earned = 148

Percent = (148 / 200) * 100 = 74%

Take a weighted average.

The 80% (0.80) score is weighted 45% (0.45)

The 68% (0.68) score is weighted 55% (0.55)

(0.80 * 0.45) + (0.68 * 0.55) = 0.734

Answer:

73.4%

Updated:

It's not simply an average of the two scores because they aren't weighted equally. The 68% score has a slightly higher weighting (55%) which is why it is slightly less than the direct average of 74%.

While it doesn't make a significant difference here, stanchims' method gives them equal weight. The lower percentage (68%) counts as 55% of your grade so it should pull it down slightly from the straight average --> (68 + 80) / 2 = 74, but that's not the *weighted* average.

I see that now. I did not notice that the 45-55 was a weighting. Thanks Puzzling.
