Why can’t they make safer planes?

It’s fricking 2020 and we’re still hearing about plane crashes and shít and still flying planes and helicopter built in the 80’s. I’m never in my life hopping on a plane. If I have to go across the Atlantic Ocean I’m getting on a cruise ship or submarine and getting absolutely shítfaced for the whole trip so that I wouldn’t remember anything

This democracy has reached one if it's final stages in which people are getting consumed with apathy along with general value of life falling. You will see a lot of private planes falling from the sky from maintenance neglect (not from the owners but from hired maintenance personal) , larger commercial planes as long as the accidents (like Boeing) get out in the spot lights and punishment is dealt, will remain relatively safe. There will be some here and there if they don't start monitoring every maintenance worker constantly. Don't worry, it won't be long until human error is out of the equation and if electric motor and battery technology is allowed to flourish in world every plane with be self-piloted and maintenance will be done automatically and enforced by smart computers.

The USA is flying tankers and bombers made in the early 1960s. Age of a plane does not make it unsafe if it gets proper maintenance. There are planes from the 1930s still flying without problems.

Things happen. I guess we should also be asking "why can't they make cars/vehicles safer? It's 2020 and we're still hearing about vehicle accidents". Aircrafts are actually very safe. It is often said you're more likely to be in a car accident than a plane crash.

There are still vehicles on the road that were made in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s. It isn't just aircraft. How they hold up/how long they last all comes down to they are maintained.

News flash - cruises/boats are also NOT perfect. There are many things that can go wrong. They are capable of sinking/crashing.

Cars have PLENTY of advanced safety features now days. Backup cameras/rear sensors, parking assist, lane departure warnings, backseat reminders (for the morons who "forget" their freaking kid is back there... smh) and even impending collision warnings. NONE of this matters though. They help and are super nice to have, but it doesn't mean the vehicle is perfect and foolproof. The DRIVER is still the one primarily responsible for controlling and operating the vehicle. Even if you're a great driver who is alert, pays attention and doesn't do stupid stuff behind the wheel like texting, you still are at risk of OTHER idiots sharing the roads with you. Someone could easily hit you and hurt/kill you. Other times, an accident is caused by something uncontrollable - a vehicle malfunction (like brakes go out), a person suffers a medical condition behind the wheel, or an animal like a deer runs into your path and you aren't able to stop in time.

Even if you aren't the one behind the wheel, you still aren't safe as a passenger. If someone hits the car you're in on YOUR side, you're more likely to be injured/killed because it's directly impacting where you are sitting.

This trolling attempt was EXTREMELY poor. Grow up and learn how the world works.

Planes already are safe. You're more likely to die on your way to the airport.

I seriously hope this is just a troll question....

At the end of the day even if you are the safest driver in the world you put yourself and your family in far more danger every time you get into the car just to go down the street.   People are just so used to using cars they are oblivious to the danger they present compared to things like traveling by air.  Helicopter's are significantly more dangerous than planes mainly for the fact any number of things can go wrong on a plane and it can still safely land, but if anything goes wrong on a Heli and your screwed.  The wealthy certainly have more of a choice if they want to fly on a 30 year old chopper or not, maybe after this they will question it more.   Commercial aircraft are usually much newer and statistically much safer than almost any alternative.  Like with anything you can live in your own bubble of reality or look at the real facts.

Planes are QUITE safe.  There are thousands of flights a day.  More people are killed in cars every day than planes.
