There are always exceptions to the rule but, in general terms ..

CAKE is a form of sweet food made from a mixture of Butter, Sugar, Eggs and Flour (and other ingredients) .. baked in the oven.

PIE is usually a dish of meat and vegetables (or it could be fruit) cooked in a dish lined with pastry and topped with pastry as well .. or it could be just topped with potato with no pastry case.

A pie without 'a lid' would be a TART or FLAN.

Pie is composed with a base crust, and often a top crust, with a filling of fruit, custard, etc., where cake is generally a heavier textured blend, layered and topped with a fruit or cream based icing between layers, and topped with similar icing.

Pie is something that is very easy, while a task that is very easy is a piece of cake. I hope that helps.

Pie is thinner with stuff in the middle while cake is bigger and can either have something in the middle or nothing at all.

The main difference between cake and pie is the content of which they are made. Cake is made up of frostings and creams, while pie is baked bread, made up of stuffing. A cake is a form of bread or bread-like food. In its modern form, it is typically a sweet baked dessert.

A pie is pastry, not bread.
