Why is everyone freaking out about the new Coronavirus?

It’s not even deadly and it’s basically like the flu

Because it has a high fatality rate.  A lot of cases around the world are being misdiagnosed as the majority of people with symptoms are not being tested.  The virus can lay dormant as your body mildly fights the virus.  Meaning there could be millions of cases pop up at the same time.

It is because China is a billionaire in population terms. So, if a virus starts there, that means it would be more dangerous than an outbreak in Montenegro, for example.

I don't know. People love freaking out. TV loves freaking people out. By scaring people, it sells (via commercials) cars, toilet paper, and medicines they don't really need.

My attitude is "something is going to kill me, no matter how freaked out I get over X Y or Z" That said, I don't smoke, because that killed both my parents, but everything else? I'm pretty calm about it.There's a bus with my name on it, or a cancer cell, or a bacterium. No one lives forever.

Because they want everyone to get their flu shots. Fear mongering
