Why are hotel rates very cheap in Atlantic City?
When I travel to Philadelphia, Washington DC or even Boston, hotel rates average around $200 per night during the summer. And don't even get me started with Hotels near Disney World. But in Atlantic City, it's only around $50 per night. Why is it so cheap there??

A few reasons: (1) Atlantic City has been struggling for years now, so they are doing what they can to draw people in; (2) casino hotels regularly offer cheaper rates than other hotels, knowing that you will likely spend your money there in other ways, such as in the casino, restaurants, shops, and shows.

Andre is correct. Especially with casino hotels, the hotel wants to make it attractive to stay at the hotel (by offering a nice room for a great price) in hopes that you will visit the casino and lose your life's savings.

Because nobody wants to go to Atlantic City?

Because these days, no one really wants to go to Atlantic City.
The whole legalized gambling/casino project turned out to be a disaster for AC, for a variety of reasons. I saw that while living in Philadelphia in the 80s and in Princeton, New Jersey in the 90s. They're pretty desperate there these days, I should imagine.

Casinos tend to offer lower hotel prices because they expect to make a lot off of you from gambling.
