    No 2000 and 2001 were... and 2000 was also the last year of the 20th Century and 2001 was the first year of the 21st Century.

    Even if they were to me they were hardly distinguishable in terms of personal events...

    I went through tech school 2002... and my 1st job (ever) in 2003...

    They felt the same... butterflies in the stomach every day...

    Wrong. That was 2002 and 2001.

    2000 was the last year of the 1990s.

      No.  2000 might have been the last year of the decade, but, it is still in the 2000's.

    2000 was in the 00s. It may not have been in the 21st century, but it was in the 00s. 2001 was in the 00s by anyone's count.
