What is the difference between a ritual, a habit, superstition, and a compulsion?
Compare OCD to other anxiety disorders, what is the same? What is different? Are treatments effective? Do you think everyone has some tendency to be OCD? For example, I do have certain ritualistic tendencies when running, when leaving the house etc that I do every time, possibly due to superstition. Athletes also have ritualistic behaviors before every game to enhance the chance of winning. Many people follow rituals every day and are not even aware of it, its just how they learned a certain behavior. Is the term OCD overused? Do you have these behaviors with certain things? When does a ritualistic behavior become an obsession?

habits are personal
rituals have a meaning
superstition is a belief, and usually an unfounded one
compulsion means you cannot do it any other way without serious panic, fear or other overwhelming feelings

The first,nothing is the same.
Yes most treatments are effective.
Many people have OCD.Some not as much.
Yes,you do not know.
ritualistic behaviour is basically a pattern of behaviour that some one follows without realising they are doing so,
it is not superstition.
