g(x) is a piece-wise function. Notice that it has 4 pieces with 4 corresponding sub-domains on the x-axis.

The first first sub-domain is x < 1 and g(x) is defined as g(x) = x+4 in this region. Notice that the end-point x= -1 is NOT included in this region, so we have an open circle on the graph at x= -1.

The second sub-domain is x = -1 and g(x) is defined as g(x) = 1 so we simply have the point (-1,1)

The third sub-domain is from -1 < x ≤ 1 and g(x) is defined as g(x) = x²-x in this region. Notice that x= -1 is NOT included in this region, but x = 1 IS included; so we have an open circle at x = -1, and a closed point at x = 1.

The fourth sub-domain is x > 1 and g(x) is defined as g(x) = x. Notice that x = 1 is NOT included in this region so we have an open circle at x = 1.

See graph below.
